A call came in this year from QDOS Entertainment asking me to do the makeup again for the media launch of one of their spectactular shows,,Aladdin at the New Wimbledon Theatre. QDOS are the entertainment company behind all of the UK's big annual Pantomime productions, with 36 years experience, a total of 719 productions and over 120,000 costumes designed, created and maintained over the years and have given over £1.2million to Great Ormand Street Children's Hospital since 2010. Each year the world's biggest pantomime producer brings a glittering array of celebrity names to stages across the UK with over 1,000 actors, singers, dancers and musicians making magic in over 35 venues. This year I worked on Paul Merton in his first ever panto appearance as Widow Twanky in Aladdin with Lee Ryan (formerly of boy-band Blue and more recently Strictly) playing Aladdin along with magician and comedian Pete Firman.
We had a great time in the dressing room - squeezing Paul into an extremely tight fitting bra, corset and tights was strange to say the least but just another day in the life of a makeup artist!
After working with Paul on the media launch he asked for me to go back and work with him on a one-to-one tuition session so that he felt condfident enough to do the makeup himself for 4 week run. I put together a full kit for him to use with a product and application guide sheet and everything he needed for the full 54 performances, all as part of the service! The Panto runs from December 8th 2018 through to January 6th 2019 - I'll be seeing the show just before Christmas - from the stalls, not the makeup room!
